   Gotta say I’m a little nervous to see how this shit turns out, if there’s any truth to it. Of course I’m one to believe that if there’s smoke, there’s fire so I imagine that some combination of the above is probably true. If so, I wonder if anything will actually come of it. NU is coming off of it’s first 10 win season since 2003, after fielding one of the most dominant defenses in college football, and arguably the most dominant defensive line in Husker (maybe college football) history. Carl was an architect of said defense. It’ll probably be settled behind the scenes somehow, and Carl gets his one and only “Get Out of Jail Free” card and the booster/person/used car salesman locks his wife/daughter in a dark shed, a’la Leach for the next few seasons, and swallows the key.

   Course if NU hadn’t won 10 games this year, and experiences a significant drop off next year on D, then it’s a whole new game I’d imagine.

   Mike, I’m nervous too. This would be bad. And although I also count myself in the “where there’s smoke” camp, “smoke” is really easy to create and reinforce these days, so I’m withholding judgment.

   Here’s the thing — if you believe this rumor, you believe that Bo and the Administration (including Osborne) decided that it made sense to delay CP’s firing until after the season. This means that they found CP’s transgression to be egregious enough to merit termination, but not right away. That seems like quite a stretch. These are smart guys, and they had to know that the “Why did you wait so long” question would be asked. The answer cannot be “Because we wanted to win the bowl game.”

   So, I think the two most likely scenarios are that either (1) it’s all bullshit or (2) something did happen, but it’s going to be handled privately and won’t involve CP’s firing. If (2), that would explain the radio silence from the Administration, at least.

    I encourage you to read the post again. The “news” is that there is a rumor, and that the rumor is affecting the fan base. There is no claim that CP did any of this stuff (and I continue to hope that he didn’t).

    I agree that there is nothing substantiated in my post. In fact, I specifically said that we don’t know whether there is any truth to any of this.

    Whether you like it or not (and again, I don’t), the rumor is out there and it’s real. Google “Carl Pelini fired” and see what happens. It’s becoming a joke, and right now, ignoring it does more harm to the program than good.

    The Truth: What don’t you understand about the rumor? Read any public B12 message and you’ll see a reference to the rumor. I think Farmer Ted did a pretty good job of dissecting the rumor dispelling the most silly aspects of said rumor.

    Is there proof of this? Not public proof and I hope there won’t be. I also don’t feel NU should address it unless it spills over into the public (ie. established media coverage).

    If Carl is guilty of adultery I also don’t think it has anything to do with his job as DC. In a country where 1 in 2 marriages end in divorce (infidelity as a major cause) I think this is an issue for CP’s family and the “other” woman’s family to resolve.

    I also know that Osborne never publically disciplined a coach with similar “issues” in the past so I wouldn’t expect either TO or BP to do so now.

    Let’s see a picture of this former Mrs. Nebraska (notice the ‘R’) runner-up. My guess is that Bo and this booster are waging a behind-the-scenes battle as we speak (write), and once everyone figures out who wields the most power within the Nebraska athletic program, a solution will arise. Of course, if it’s the former Mrs. Nebraska’s (notice the ‘R’) booster man who loses, we probably won’t hear a word unless he wants to out his woman and pile a little public humiliation on her. My $$$ is on Bo.

    My early guess is that the rumor was started by someone – or someoneS – with an axe to grind. If this was true, I would think that TO & Bo would be getting it over with as quickly as possible. Even if they’re trying to keep it quiet until after signing day, I’ve got to believe he’d still be shut down with the “flu” or at least be sent recruiting in Maine & Newfoundland or something.

    According to a standard Google search’s results field, there used to be a post on the Mrs. Nebraska blog entitled “A Day With Coach Carl Pelini” from sometime in July or August of 2008. Apparently that post no longer exists on the blog, indicating it has been recently deleted.

    Great strategy. Take ridiculous rumors from message boards and e-mails, post them as “some big Carl Pelini news is breaking,” and watch your little hit-o-meter go up and up.     Your notion that we should all sort of band together and squash this rumor by agreeing not to talk about it is a quaint one, but sadly it’s not the way the world works anymore. I don’t know whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but the reality is that these days — as in this case — a rumor can be so pervasive and so powerful that it becomes news in itself.

    As a recent example, remember the rumor that Obama wasn’t a natural-born citizen? It was (and still is) rejected by most people as silly and spiteful garbage, but the fact that the rumor existed was very real news and it was widely reported. Did the reporting of the rumor by news sources actually help spread it, as a side effect? Probably. But because some rumors turn out to be true, I’d rather have rumors presented to me in an objective and balanced fashion so I can decide for myself. To be overly dramatic for a moment, I’m afraid of a world in which information is screened, repackaged and distributed by those who might benefit from withholding it.

    So, that’s why I posted the CP thing. You obviously disagree with the way it was presented, and that’s fair criticism. And because this site is new and has no track record yet, I guess I understand why you skipped to the conclusion that we’re just looking for hits and notoriety. (If we were breaking this story rather than just noting it, that would be a valid point.)

    By the way, if you have information to share that indicates that the rumor is false, I’d love to hear it, publicly or privately. At this stage that would be important information to put out there. But my guess is that like the rest of us, you’re simply hoping none of this is true.

    I know fans have wishful thinking that this is not true, as do I, but unfortunately Carl Pelini is a scum bag. She did not win Mrs. Nebraska but competed in the 2008 contest and this is where Carl met her. People close to these individuals have confirmed an affair and they are divorcing over it. There are other rumors flying and I do not want to spread them without validity. They are even uglier.

    This couple has 2 small children and Pelini has a wife with 3 kids. This is a sad, sad story. I do not know if it is a fireable offense but I sure as hell would not want my kid to play for a home wrecking scum bag with questionable morals.
