No seriously. Check this article from the Rivals free board that attempts to identify 5 traits common among most national champs since the inception of the BCS in 1998.
(Side note: For 2009, Alabama only met 4 criteria but Texas was 5/5)

Very interesting read. Article states the facts pretty clearly, and obviously experience at QB and defense are good indicators of how successful a team will be.

And there are Haitians in our national championship shirts to prove it.

Nebraska Fits the Profile of the 2010 National Champion
Why do I hear this in the voice of Sergeant Joe Friday?

When do early odds on the NC come out?

Interesting but call me skeptical now. We’ve got experience at QB but not positive experience. I realize Lee was hurt a great deal of the time but we really don’t know what he’s like when he’s healthy against BCS quality opponents. I do love our D.

Good line. What is the thinking on his ability vs. the injury?

It’s funny you should ask. I’m working on putting something together right now that will be discussing this very topic. I know you’re waiting with bated breath for it too. Admit it.

As much as I love Suh, I’m more convinced that the Pelini brothers are the primary reason for the defensive success. We’ll have a “championship” caliber defense against season. I’m a little cynical on the potential for the offense to rise to that challenge.

Maybe I’m drinking the Kool Aid here but I think the Holiday Bowl offensive show was more than a one-shot wonder. 1st game since early in the season that we had:
1) a semi-healthy Lee (see 18 carries)
2) 1 healthy top flight RB (see Burkhead running wild)
3) a healthy O-line (go ahead & make this #’s 4, 5 & 6 as well, the injuries both to starters & reserves was one probably the most underrated story of 2009.)
Arizona was the the #20 D in the country I believe. OK, they weren’t Texas or Oklahoma, but it’s not exactly running it up on the Sun Belt either. I t wasn’t an accident that we waited until Dec 30 to open up the offense, we just didn’t have the bodies much of the season.
I know dealing with injuries is part of the game, but last year was bit extreme.
